Ok, so two new developments.  I have decided to scrap the idea of using monks cloth as it is just way too costly.  And so linen it will be and I will just add pleats to give it texture.  Secondly I have decided on a new look for my wife's costume:

and then mine will remain like this:

So as soon as I am able to afford the fabric and can locate someone to help me make it then I shall begin.  I have no sewing skills at all, and even less skills cutting and piecing together a pattern.  Wish me luck.

So earlier today I found what looked like some really awesome fabric for the Outer Tunic.  It's called Monk's Cloth.

Monk's Cloth Aida 7 Count 60" Wide 10 Yards-Natural
This is similar to what it looks like and is unbleached.  I really liked the feel of it.  I have not bought any yet, but very much considering it.  Would love to get others thoughts on using it.  It currently runs $7.97 a yard at Wal-Mart.
Good morning!  I am excited to get started with this project and so have been researching color schemes and where to purchase the belt, boxes, food capsules and found this on ebay:

I also found some really nice looking boots on Amazon:

I will have to save up to purchase these, just as I will need to save up for everything else.  This is going to be a slow build.  I will most likely be building one for my wife as well.  So this is going to be a long project, but one I will not shy away from.

I found a template to be able to do a basic mock up on my computer's paint program.  These are for mine and my wife's costumes.  Mine is the maroon and the purple is for my wife:

Let me know what you think.

Hello, My name is Brandon Hinds.  I am a huge Star Wars fan and former Civil War Reenactor.  When my youngest so was diagnosed with a rare heart condition and the initial fear among my family subsided, I contacted Make-A-Wish foundation.  My son was approved and wished to go on a cruise and fight Darth Vader.  So, it was off to the Disney Star Wars Day At Sea cruise we went.  However, prior to leaving on the cruise, Make-A-Wish foundation arranged for an "enhancement" to his wish.  This involved going to Dave & Buster's restaurant and fun center to have a party with Star Wars characters from the 501st Legion and Rebel Legion costume groups.

In seeing and meeting with these guys from the 501st and Rebel Legion, I was right back in the mindset of my days in the Civil War reenacting.  These were intricate movie quality costumes.  I found out these groups were comprised of volunteers that actually pay to do this.  Much like myself when I did the reenacting.  So, I was instantly hooked, asking where do I sign up.

So, first I had to decide what side to be on, and for me that was easy...the Rebel Legion.

next was to decide on the type of costume I wanted to do.  After plenty of research I decided I would do a generic Jedi build.  It was then recommended that I join the Rebel Legion forum to get help and advice, and to start a Work In Progress (WIP) thread on the forum and possibly a blog detailing the process from planning to finish and everything in between.

So here it goes. Wish me luck, and follow me on this galactic saga.
